As I embark on taking my cupcake business from concept to action I am blessed to have supporters along the way. I personally started baking about 5 years ago when my daughter and I took a cake decorating class. I fell in love with cupcakes immediately. From that time until now I have sold cupcakes inconsistently at farmers markets, to friends, family and co-workers.
Each time that I have walked away from my love (those cute little cuppies), God has sent someone to remind me that baking and cupcakes are my gift and I am to develop it. About 4 months ago my Pastor's wife pulled me aside and said "LaMonique, God told me to tell you don't stop your baking that's your gift". Wow right! Well I would love to be able to say that I heeded the call, but I didn't. I was a slacker. I have since learned that diligence is key! I once read somewhere that, WE ARE what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not a (single) act, but a habit. And we are known by our habits whether they be good or whether they be bad. From this point forward, I definitely want to be known for my consistency.
I was watching the dearly departed Dr. Myles Munroe on Youtube and grasping for some direction in business. He taught that you are generally known by "that one thing". For instance Mike Tyson and boxing, Tiger Woods and golf, Michael Jordan and basketball. I do believe LaMonique is synonymous with cupcakes.
Recently I had a friend from work ask me to make her some Snicker's cupcakes and Snicker's Ice cream cupcakes for her close friend's birthday. I'm like "Amelia I've never made those cupcakes before, especially an ice cream cupcake". Well she would not take no for an answer. She said her friend's favorite dessert was snickers ice cream and cake and she would be supplying me with the recipe and I would be making it. Well by golly ok then. Now Amelia is not generally a pushy person, but this time she was just insistent that I make these cupcakes. Finally she laid the compliments on thick. She had sampled my work before. Amelia said she was willing to testify that out of all bakers my cupcakes were the only ones she had eaten that offered both beautiful presentation and delectable taste. (ok I might be embellishing a little bit) But she did say my cupcakes were the bomb dot com.
Well you know I had to make them for her with such flattery right? I must say my husband and I worked like a team to bring about an excellent product. I am so thankful for Amelia giving me the push I needed to get back to my passion.
I am also so very thankful for all of you who share the love of baking and cupcakes with me. May we inspire and challenge each other to ACTION!
